Goals
Goals are for the in-between work. Bigger than a single task, smaller than an entire life category. Refinish the deck. Save up for a new water heater. Get the garage clean. Goals give you milestones, a progress bar, and a place to put notes as you go.
What a goal looks like
Every goal has:
- A title. "Refinish the deck."
- A target. A date, a dollar amount, a count, or just "done." Could be "by July 4," "save $3,000," "8 boards replaced."
- Milestones. The smaller steps that get you there. "Sand. Stain. Seal." Or "Save first $1,000. Save second $1,000. Save third $1,000."
- A progress bar. Updates as milestones are checked off, or as you log progress numerically.
- Linked items, schedules, or supplies. What the goal touches.
- Notes and photos logged as you go.
Creating a goal
- Open the Goals page.
- Click New goal.
- Pick the type: Date-based (deadline), Numeric (count or dollar amount), or Milestone (just a list of steps).
- Fill in target, milestones, and any related items.
- Save.
Goal types
Date-based
"Deck refinished by July 4." Progress is measured by how many milestones you have checked off relative to time elapsed. The progress bar tells you if you are on track.
Numeric
"Save $3,000 for a new water heater." You log progress as you go. The bar fills toward the target. Works equally for "feet of fence replaced," "rooms painted," or "miles walked."
Milestone
A simple list. No deadline, no number. Just things to do, in order or not.
Logging progress
From the goal's detail page, click Log progress. The form asks for:
- A number, milestone, or note (depending on goal type).
- An optional photo.
- An optional cost (rolls up into your costs report).
- An optional date if you forgot to log it on the day.
Logged progress is timestamped and visible on the goal's history tab.
Linking schedules and items
A goal can be linked to existing schedules, items, or supplies. When linked:
- The goal page shows the related items, with a link out to each.
- Completing a linked schedule contributes to the goal's progress.
- The cost from a linked schedule rolls into the goal's spending total.
This is great for "kitchen renovation" type goals that touch many items.
On the Home page
Active goals appear in a card on Home so you do not lose track of them. The card shows the progress bar and the next pending milestone. Click into any goal to log progress without leaving Home.
Archived and completed goals
Once a goal is done, it gets archived but stays searchable. Useful for "what did the deck refinish cost us, and when did we do it?"
Family-shared goals
On the Family plan, you can make a goal household-wide. Everyone can log progress and add notes. Great for "kitchen reno" or "summer trip savings."
You can also keep goals personal (a fitness goal you do not want to share) by toggling the privacy flag.
