Notifications
Reminders are how Life Maintenance actually helps. If we never tell you a filter is due, you will never change it. This page explains the four notification channels and how to set them up.
The four channels
- Email. A daily digest, a weekly digest, or per-task. Sent from
noreply@lifemaintenance.io. - Push. Through the mobile app. Off until you install and grant permission.
- SMS. Family plan only, US numbers for now. Most useful as the "loud" channel for emergencies.
- In-app. The bell icon in the top right of every page. Always on; cannot be disabled.
You can mix and match. Many people use push for time-sensitive ("today" reminders) and email for the rest.
Where the settings live
Open Settings → Notifications. The page is organized as a grid: rows are reminder types, columns are channels. Tap a cell to toggle a channel for that reminder type.
Reminder types include:
- Schedule due today.
- Schedule due this week.
- Schedule overdue.
- Family activity (someone in your family marked a task done).
- Family invites and changes.
- Goal progress.
- Billing and account.
Per-channel detail
Pick a frequency:
- Per task. Every reminder gets its own email. Loud but precise.
- Daily digest. One email each morning summarizing today and tomorrow.
- Weekly digest. A Monday email with the week ahead.
You can also set a send time for digests. Default is 7:00 AM in your timezone.
Push
After installing the mobile app, grant notification permission. You can set quiet hours (default 9pm to 7am) and choose which reminder types push.
Push is by far the most reliable channel for time-sensitive reminders.
SMS
Family plan only. Add a phone number under Settings → Notifications → SMS. Verify with a confirmation code.
We only send SMS for high-urgency reminders (overdue critical schedules, family alerts). Not for daily routine work.
In-app
The bell icon shows recent activity. You cannot turn this off. It is the only "always available" channel.
Quiet hours
Set a window when no channel sends anything (except in-app). Default is 9 PM to 7 AM, weekdays only. You can toggle weekends and holidays separately.
Quiet hours apply to outbound channels (email, push, SMS). The in-app bell still updates so you have a record of what would have been sent.
Per-schedule overrides
For schedules that matter more than average, you can set per-schedule reminder rules. Open the schedule, find the Reminders card, override the lead time and channels.
Example: most schedules give you a one-day heads-up. For "Renew vehicle registration," you might want a two-week heads-up via email and a one-day push.
"I am not getting reminders"
The most common causes, in order:
- No mobile app installed. Push needs the app. Install it from your phone's app store.
- OS notification permission denied. Check phone settings.
- Notification type disabled. Check the grid in Settings → Notifications.
- Quiet hours. Did the reminder fall in your quiet window?
- Email in spam. Check your spam folder once, then mark
noreply@lifemaintenance.ioas safe. - Schedule not actually due yet. Check the schedule's next-due date.
If none of these is the cause, contact us.
Family notifications
On the Family plan, you can also choose whether to be notified about other people's activity:
- "Olivia marked the dog's heartworm done."
- "Marcus added a new schedule to the lawnmower."
- "A family event was added by Olivia."
These are off by default; many families turn them on for accountability.
Unsubscribing
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it disables email specifically; you will still get push and in-app. To turn off everything, use the master switch at the top of the Notifications settings page.
